PICKING THE PERFECT VENUE

5 years ago I decided to move away from all of my friends and family and move to paradise.  I chose Siesta Key, FL for its number one beaches and of course the palm trees!  Well, because of this leap now that I am getting married I have to have everyone fly in for my wedding!
Picking the venue was by far the most stressful piece of wedding planning.  My family wanted the wedding in Boston but my fiancés’ family is all in Virginia.  Both amazing places to have a wedding, but the more options we had for a location the more my head started to spin.  No matter what people were going to travel, so I decided they should travel to us for our big day!  Also, cake testing was a major factor – we need to taste that cake… and 50 others 😉
I narrowed my search down to 2 hours south of where we lived and as I was scrolling through The Knot’s wedding venues, I found THE one!  It was beautiful with a nice beach view and had so many places for my guests to adventure to!
Miramar Lakes Golf & Country Club:

Some things to keep in mind when picking your venue, I learned, were these:

FIND WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY

With so many guests and families involved, not everyone is going to be happy because of some inconvenience to them.  Pick a venue based off of your dream day, what you will want to look back and show your children, family, and friends.

FIND AN AREA THAT YOU WANT THE WEDDING

Narrow down where you want the wedding first and then search venues in your budget

EVENT PLANNER

One thing I didn’t do was get an event planner before I started diving in.  When spending over 15k on a wedding its worth dishing out the extra grand for piece of mind.  They will go by your overall budget and show you venues within that range.  If I had done this I would have saved an entire months worth of headaches and family arguments.

LIST YOUR PRIORITIES AND CONCERNS

For us, it was as simple as cake testing. We thought about having a wedding in another state, but the cake testing would include a plane ticket.  That was an inconvenience to us and we really wanted to go to one as a fun experience together!  Other concerns were associated with flying, we didn’t want to tack on more costs to our budget just to see our venue, cake taste, and find our vendors.
When it comes to YOUR big day, you are going to face so many obstacles but being prepared and knowing what is coming always helps!  Just remember to have fun and make each one of these tasks a fun experience with your fiancé!  My best advice is to not get caught up in all of the stress and enjoy building your dream day.

WEDDING PLANNING

On August 6th, 2016 I was proposed to by the most handsome, sweetest, and amazing man I have ever met!  I have documented in my wedding planner all the steps needed to make this day a huge success!   Now that I am just 7 weeks away from our big day, I wanted to compile a little blog for those who are either just beginning or who are in the same phase as me - deep breathes and hope we did not forget anything. Just kidding!  I was an event planner for 3 years while in college and picked up some great tips about planning and budgeting for my own events, which allows me to be a very calm bride (for the most part at least ). I am so excited to be putting together my to-do list for what to do in the first two months!  I got to organize lists, look at venues, shoes, and of course try on and find MY DRESS!! Some see this as the most stressful piece of a wedding but I took it on as the most exciting and Pinterest - addict -friendly months ever (yes, I made that up)! First Three Steps

SHOES, DRESS, READY TO IMPRESS

Finally found the dress! But, no this is not it! My Fiancé is extremely nosey and checks my blog account 😉 so this is just one of the many dresses I tried on.  Loved the experience of having my wedding dress on and spinning, laughing, and champagne toasting.  I always thought that it would be such a stressful experience trying to find “the one.”  Turns out it was the first dress I laid my eyes on!  Most people say don't stop at the first dress you try on, even if you absolutely love it, give the others a shot and see how you feel.  I loved my first dress so much, but I tried on 9 others and loved those ones too!  I decided on the first dress because it reminded me of when I first met my fiancé on the beach in a group of friends.  We liked each other instantly and were inseparable from the start and thats the same feeling I got with my dress.  The others were a little more edgy for my liking but if you want to feel sexy then there are some amazingly good options out there fo
